It's Official: Congressman Grayson is a Leader
Tuesday, September 08, 2009
By: Carol Cox

The independent civics project GovTrack recently threw into a computer all of the bills filed in Congress this year. Based on statistical analysis, this is what they found:

Alan Grayson is a leader.

GovTrack evaluated all 435 House Members, and all 100 Senators. Their statistical analysis ranked them all for Leadership, meaning who can get other members to follow their lead on legislation.

Out of the 535 Members of Congress, Grayson ranked #31. That puts him in the top 6%, among all of Congress.

Grayson is just below Minority Leader John Boehner, at #28. He's just above Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, at #32.

The top 30 leaders in Congress have served there an average of over 17 years. Grayson has been there a mere eight months.

Of the top 30 leaders in Congress, two are members of the House Leadership, 10 lead House Committees, and 11 lead House Subcommittees. Freshmen like Grayson don't get to be Committee Chairs. But Grayson finds a way to lead anyway.

Out of 53 new Members of Congress this year, Congressman Grayson was the first to pass a bill. And it wasn't a bill to rename a post office, or establish a commission - it was a crucial bill to crack down on the unearned bonuses, paid with taxpayer money, which managers at failed, government-owned banks were grabbing for themselves. The bill zoomed through the House in nine days.

Last November, even before Congressman Grayson was sworn in, the Sentinel tried to put the hex on him, saying: "some say" that Grayson "may quickly rub his new colleagues the wrong way." Well, "some say" that the Sentinel is a trashy tabloid that dresses up bias and gossip as news. But regardless, Congressman Grayson has very quickly rubbed his new colleagues the right way; he has earned their respect through leadership. GovTrack's statistical analysis proves it.

Our Congressman, Alan Grayson: he works hard, he pays attention, and he gets things done. He's a Leader.
